Patterns, textures and colors inspire me visually and musically....

Betsy LeBlanc

With a background in music, as a clarinet player, I am always looking for concepts and language that are common to music and design or the visual arts in general. While rhythm may be the first that comes to mind, I find pattern, texture and color to be the most interesting. Patterns can create structure within a piece of music the same way a pattern can give structure to a design. Similarly, texture and colors can impact the entire mood or feel both in what we hear and what we see. Some artists can even be identified by their signature color palette just like a musician can be identified by the tone quality of their instrument or voice. Much of how I think about music I bring with me to how I make decisions when I design.
